Substantial Completion Ceremony webConstruction has been completed on Memorial Hospital East, a $124 million satellite hospital that Belleville's Memorial is building in Shiloh. But hospital officials said there's more work ahead before the new facility opens April 12.

Officials from Holland Construction and Pepper Construction, along with officials from Memorial Hospital and Shiloh, celebrated the building's completion at a ceremony Tuesday, the Belleville News-Democrat reports. The new 94-bed facility is located at 1404 Cross St. in Shiloh, 15 minutes north of Memorial’s Belleville hospital.

Now equipment and furniture need to be moved into the new hospital, then staff training and orientation will also be a priority in the months before the facility opens, Ruth Holmes, hospital administrator, told the newspaper. A formal dedication is scheduled for April 10.

Construction on the new hospital began in January 2014. The new facility features 94 private suites with a 24-hour emergency room, intensive care unit, family birthing center and other diagnostic and treatment services.

Last month, Memorial finalized terms of a new strategic affiliation with St. Louis-based BJC HealthCare. Under the terms of the agreement, expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2016, a new jointly owned parent organization — Memorial Regional Health Services — will oversee Memorial Hospital in Belleville, the new Memorial Hospital East as well as the Memorial Foundation and other holdings.
