Building Future Leaders: Holland Supports Outdoor Education for Peace Warriors
At Holland Construction Services, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom walls. As a part of Project BUILT, our student engagement program, we are proud to support a unique opportunity for East St. Louis School District 189 students from Wyvetter Younge School of Excellence’s Peace Warriors program to experience an overnight Outdoor Education camp at Camp Ondessonk – a scholarship made possible through Holland’s commitment to investing in the next generation.
The Peace Warriors, a student-led group dedicated to fostering leadership, teamwork, and positive change, recently participated in this immersive outdoor experience. During their time at camp, students engaged in hands-on activities that reinforced those same values – encouraging collaboration, building resilience, and strengthening their connections with one another.
In a heartfelt note of appreciation, Sydney Stigge-Kaufman from East St. Louis School District 189, shared:
“We’re truly grateful for Holland Construction’s generosity and commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for our youth. This experience will be a powerful extension of the Peace Warriors’ work – helping students build teamwork, leadership, and a sense of connection beyond the classroom.”
For Holland, this initiative is especially meaningful. Our Vice President of Client Relations, Ryan Savage, is a long-time supporter of Camp Ondessonk and currently serves on its board of directors.
Ryan shared:
“Camp Ondessonk has always been a place where young people discover confidence, leadership, and a sense of community that stays with them for life. Being able to help students from Younge School’s Peace Warriors experience that same growth is something we’re incredibly proud of at Holland.”
