Holland Construction Services, Inc. (Holland) recently broke ground on a new K-12 grade school in Wayne City, Illinois.

The school district’s existing facility was built in the 1930’s with multiple additions added throughout the years. Jeff Mitchell, Superintendent of Wayne City Community Unit School District #100, said the district not only needed a modern facility, but also one “to meet the needs of our students and community for many years to come.”

After construction is complete, all grades will move to the new building and the current school will be demolished. Separate wings for K-2nd grade, 3rd-6th grade, junior high, and high school will lay adjacent to a common area, shared reading room, and cafeteria. The new facility will also feature two gymnasiums - a competition gymnasium, along with a smaller elementary school gym.

FGM Architects out of O’Fallon, Illinois, is designing the new school. Work on the 105,000 square-foot facility is expected to be complete in August 2016.
