Holland Construction Services Completes Phase I Construction on St. John's United Methodist Church

May 10, 2006

EDWARDSVILLE, IL - Holland Construction Services (HCS) completed the first phase of construction on St. John's United Methodist Church at 7372 Marine Road in Edwardsville, where consecration of the new building was held the last weekend in April.

HCS completed the $1.7 million, 23,000-square-foot project, to serve as the new home for St. John's. Phase I included renovation of an existing pre-engineered metal building formerly occupied by Burn's Nursery. In addition, a 3,500-square-foot concrete masonry attached kitchen and choir wing was incorporated. The new location provides space for offices, classrooms, a library and fellowship area where services will be held.

Leesa Zick, chair of the St. John's building committee, said the church chose Holland because of its strong background in the construction of religious facilities - and they weren't disappointed.

"Holland did a fabulous job," said. "We have a beautiful new facility and it was on time and under budget. You can't ask for much more than that."

The 25-acre site also allows the church additional parking, improved accessibility and room for future growth. Funding is pending for Phase II, Zick said, which will include a sanctuary, a large multi-purpose room and additional education space.

Karasek Architects of St. Louis provided architectural services.
