O'Fallon School District #104 Breaking Ground on New Middle School

June 21, 2007

O'FALLON, IL - A groundbreaking ceremony June 21 at 106 St. Ellen Mine Road will mark the beginning of the first middle school for Central School Dist. #104 in O'Fallon, Ill. Holland Construction Services is breaking new ground for the start of construction on the Joseph Arthur Middle School scheduled to open for classes in fall 2008.

The 35,888-square-foot structure with $6.5 million in constructions costs was designed by Wm. B. Ittner, Inc. of St. Louis. The design will accommodate 11 classrooms, an art room, science room, a multi-purpose gymnasium, cafeteria, library, computer room and administrative office space. In addition, middle schoolers will have their first dedicated music and band room designed specifically for that purpose.

"This building is going to help relieve overcrowding as our area continues to grow," said District #104 Superintendent Steve Amizich. "We're excited about the dedicated spaces for our various programs that also continue to develop and expand."

Interior spaces will feature carpeted floors; wear resistant, resinous flooring in high traffic areas and plastered interior walls.

Amizich said that the entire Holland team has been great to work with beginning with the development stage and developing a budget.

"We chose Holland Construction due to its excellent performance record of bringing in jobs on time and on budget," said Amizich. "Holland is dependable, reliable and has a great reputation - we needed someone we could count on."

Amizich said that the district projects the need to enlarge the school in a "Phase II" process in a few years, and the library and other spaces were designed to accommodate that later expansion.
