O'FALLON - Holland Construction Services broke ground in May on Phase I of the O'Fallon Sports Park.

The 50-acre, $9 million development will include four baseball fields with tournament-quality lighting and design, a playground with sliding boards and other recreational equipment, a walking path and open pavilions for picnicking and gathering. A gazing pond with rock features and fountains add ambiance and interest.

Conveniences will be available at the new comfort station, with public restrooms, concessions and a maintenance storage area.

"We're thrilled with how nice it is to work with Holland Construction and how easy they have made the project for us," said Mary Jean Hutchinson, O'Fallon Parks and Recreation Director. "Holland has been fabulous and that makes my job much easier."

Additional phases on the O'Fallon Sports Park are slated to include eight additional baseball/softball fields, 12 soccer fields and a recreational building.

Holland Construction also completed the state-of-the-art public safety facility for the city of O'Fallon in 2004, housing the police station and emergency medical services for the municipality.
