February 24, 2006 Fairview Heights, IL - Holland Construction Service (HCS) will soon break ground on Holy Trinity Catholic Church and School, which will complete the physical merger of Our Lady of Assumption and St. Albert the Great Catholic churches on Fountains Parkway in Fairview Heights. As construction managers, HCS began working with Holy Trinity in the early conception stage. The resulting $14 million, 80,000-square-foot project will be made up of a 14,133 square-foot church, a 29,456 square-foot school and 36,096 square feet of parish conference room and gymnasium - all under one roof. Stauder Architecture, specialist in religious and institutional architecture, is providing architectural services, and prepared a master plan for the 22-acre site to accommodate current needs and long-term growth. "We're excited to be a part of the creation of Holy Trinity's new home, where they will continue their traditions and provide education for their children for many years to come," said Bruce Holland, president of HCS. "The conference center and gymnasium are added benefits that will provide recreational facilities and bring people together." The brick veneer building will feature architectural accents and a standing seam, radiused metal roof. Exposed wooden beams in the church and vestibule add a unique element, and clerestory windows in the church will allow light to flood through the sanctuary. A curved, covered colonnade on the entire front elevation of the church and parish conference area was added to provide shade and shelter, as well as architectural interest. Drive-through porte-cocheres are provided for protected drop-off. The church will seat about 1,200 and feature a raised organ platform and an accessible, curved day chapel. The new school will accommodate approximately 280 pre-school through eighth grade students, with future expansion capabilities. A science room, music room, computer room and library, along with primary classrooms and offices surround a central courtyard. Plans are to open the school for fall semester 2007. A walkway from the school leads to the gymnasium and parish center. A large lobby, accessed through a large outdoor plaza, serves as a central gathering area for all elements of the Holy Trinity complex. The parish center will house a cafeteria with full kitchen facilities, a large multi-purpose room, meeting rooms, administrative offices and a youth center. Outdoor improvements include a large parking lot, athletic fields and playground. HCS is also currently constructing St. John's Methodist Church in Edwardsville, and the design process is under way for Christ United Methodist Church in Fairview Heights.
