Holland Construction Renovating New Swansea Rural King Building
SWANSEA, ILL. – Holland Construction Services Inc. is in the process of refurbishing an 84,000-square-foot building in Swansea, set to open its doors as a new Rural King store in April.
Renovations include structural and roof repairs, painting and other cosmetic repairs, addition of offices and public restrooms and parking lot resealing. The new store will add 40 to 50 jobs to the area, and offer customers a variety of products, including departments specializing in tools, power equipment, hardware, plumbing, electrical, sporting goods, clothing, lawn and garden, automotive, toys, heaters and air conditioners. A full-service repair shop will be available for all of the power equipment the store sells.
Holland Construction was chosen for the project by building owners the Jones family from Olney, Ill., for several reasons.
“The testimonies we received on the quality of Holland’s work and how nice the people are to deal with - all from a local company - made it an easy choice,” said Ryan Jones, a spokesman for the family.
“The Holland team has been exceptional to work with,” he added. “The amount of detail and attention that has gone into keeping this job going under bad weather conditions, with several different contractors and changes in the work detail, and all within budget, has been great.”
The Swansea Rural King will bring one of the most diversified selections of any retail store in the area at the most competitive prices, Jones said.
“We have several major categories to take care of any of our customers needs, and we pride ourselves in a knowledgeable and friendly staff that is truly there to help all of our customers,” he said.
The Swansea building was originally built by Holland Construction and formerly housed a Grandpa’s discount store and later, a Value City store, but has been vacant for a number of years. The current repairs being done to the building are due to mine subsidence that occurred through the years.
“The work will bring the building back to all local and state codes and will once again be a usable property in great working condition that will bring a nice flow of consumers back to the area,” Jones said.
The Swansea facility will be the sixth in the Jones’ family group of Rural King stores with other locations in Olney (headquarters), Mount Carmel, Highland, Robinson and Salem. Jones’ grandfather, George Jones, acquired the first store in 1964.
