Holland Construction Services Completes Schnucks Store in Indiana

NEWBURGH, IN. – Holland Construction Services Inc.’s first Indiana project is completed and open for business, recently holding its grand opening on Nov. 11.

Joining more than 22 Schnucks stores built by HCS, the new store at Bell Oaks Center in Newburgh, Ind. doubled the size of the old store, now offering customers expanded services in all areas.

Owned by The DESCO Group, Holland Construction was contracted for the Indiana Schnucks project following its very successful completion of a similar Schnucks store and retail center in Waterloo, Ill., also owned by The DESCO Group.

“We were so happy with the first project, we knew we wanted to have the same team work on the second one,” said Franklin Sears, representative for The DESCO Group. “Working with Holland has been a very positive experience. They surpassed our expectations.”

The $6.6 million Schnucks structure was built using concrete-tilt-up panels and masonry construction encompassing 63,692 square feet. The produce area features an open, airy shopping space, while a drive-through pharmacy and larger store brings added convenience for customers. The overall project also included the restructuring of the surrounding retail component.

The Waterloo Schnucks store will soon celebrate its first anniversary. The surrounding Waterloo Commons retail component, also built by HCS, features Harrison Telephone Communications (HTC), Lily’s Nail Spa, Custom Cuts and Wilson’s Corner Grill and Pub.

As part of the team for the Waterloo, Ill. and Newburgh, Ind. projects, Kuhlmann Design Group of St. Louis provided architectural services.

Based in St. Louis, Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates 105 stores and 100 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi. The company opened its first store in St. Louis in 1939.
