Holland Construction Services Completes New Saluki Stadium For 2010 Season
CARBONDALE, ILL. – Southern Illinois University Carbondale Salukis have a new home and athletic facilities this season, completed in a joint venture by Holland Construction Services, Inc. and J. E. Dunn Construction Co., replacing the university’s 73-year-old McAndrew Stadium.
As Phase 1 of Saluki Way, the new Saluki Stadium was built by Holland Construction and designed by Image Architects of Carbondale. The facility seats about 15,000, with more than 1,000 seats with chair backs and 14 air-conditioned suites. The new structure features aluminum grandstand seating, a 20- by 40-foot video board, multiple masonry block concession areas, a high-tech FieldTurf surface, and a large press box with a large room for pre-game or public events.
“Everyone at Holland Construction has been thrilled with the opportunity to be a part of the new stadium at SIU,” said Bruce Holland, president of Holland Construction. “It’s now providing students, coaches, the Saluki team and the fans a wonderful sports venue for many years to come.”
The centerpiece of the overall planned athletic complex, the stadium was completed in about 17 months – just in time to kick off the team’s 2010 season.
“It’s been a pleasure to work with university officials and all those involved in the process, from fellow construction managers at J. E. Dunn, to the architects and numerous subcontractors,” Holland said. “Everyone concerned helped make the project run smoother.”
The athletic building and arena upgrades are by J. E. Dunn Construction Co., with design by 360 Architecture of Kansas City, Mo. The new Boydston Center houses new locker rooms, meeting rooms and staff offices.
The stadium cost $32 million, with overall construction costs for the first two phases at around $78 million.
