Holland Construction Chosen as Construction Manager For New Pinckneyville High School

PINCKNEYVILLE, ILL. – Holland Construction Services, Inc. has been selected as the construction manager for the new Pinckneyville Community High School District #101 high school in Pinckneyville, tentatively set to begin construction in the spring of 2011.

The new 54,000-square-foot structure will ultimately replace the two existing buildings currently housing 470 students in pre-kindergarten and grades nine through 12, while incorporating and renovating the existing gymnasium that will feature a newly installed heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system.

The new building will provide space for 500 students and offer state-of-the-art program space including science rooms with a lab and preparation room, art classrooms with a darkroom, home economics and food lab, computer and tech labs, pre-kindergarten classroom, media center, girl’s gymnasium and locker rooms, general education classrooms, special education classrooms with office, restrooms and administrative and guidance offices for the high school and district.

In addition, the building will feature a nurse’s office, teacher’s workroom, storage and mechanical rooms, an elevator and a cafeteria, kitchen and cafetorium with moveable stage that will replace the small existing cafeteria that holds only 42 people. The new cafetorium will help bring people together for meals and other events, serving the school population as well as the community.

“The board, our administration and staff felt Holland Construction understood our needs and goals of the project for the school and the community,” said Jonathan Green, superintendent of Pinckneyville Community High School District #101. “They came very highly recommended and they have all been great to work with.”

Green said the existing building no longer serves the student population and how it functions in terms of technology, space and size.

“It’s important to our students, staff, faculty and the community to build a new school,” he said.

One of the biggest challenges will be construction of the new high school while keeping the existing school operational. Once the new high school is complete, a second challenge will involve demolition of the existing school in a fairly condensed space. Once the old school is torn down, it will make way for a new parking area.

Mevert Professional Associates, Inc. of Steeleville will be the architects for the project.
