O'Fallon Township District #203 Breaking Ground on New Freshman Campus

Addition will ease high school overcrowding...

Future home of the OTHS Milburn School Campus - Opening in the Fall of 2009

O'FALLON, IL - O'Fallon Township High School District #203 will break ground January 4 at 3:30 p.m., on the new Milburn Campus to help alleviate overcrowding at the existing high school as the surrounding community continues to grow.

At this time, the $37.5 million expansion is planned to house a "freshman only campus," but the architectural firm of Wm. B. Ittner, Inc. of St. Louis is designing the building to accommodate future expansion for a freshman and sophomore setting or even a freshman through senior campus.

Construction of the new campus will be managed by Holland Construction Services, Inc., with occupancy scheduled for the 2009 school year. The Milburn Campus masonry veneer structure will feature classroom wings, a library, a multi-purpose cafeteria and administrative space, with an attached tilt-up concrete gymnasium.

Holland Construction and Wm. B. Ittner also worked together on OTHS's addition that encompassed seven classrooms, two chemistry labs and 1,000 square feet of administrative offices. Academic areas are set to open in January in time for the spring semester, with office space already in use.

Darcy Benway, OTHS District #203 superintendent said that she has been involved with many school construction projects, and the recent expansion was one of the best experiences she has had. She said that maintaining a quality learning environment is a priority for the district, and the addition provides immediate relief to space demands at the high school.
