Holland Construction Building New Okawville School

OKAWVILLE, ILL. – Plans are in motion for Holland Construction Services, Inc. to begin work this fall on the new West Washington County Community Unit District #10 Kindergarten through 12th grade school in Okawville.

The $29 million project encompasses 166,000 square feet consisting of new construction built around the existing gymnasium while the school remains operational. The new facility will be built on two levels with a Kindergarten through sixth grade wing and a seventh- through 12th-grade wing.

Construction will be completed in two phases. The first phase includes the upper grade wing, cafeteria, multi-purpose area, a new gymnasium for the upper grades and offices.  High school areas consist of 12 classrooms, a band room, computer lab and a stand-alone agricultural building for shop classes. Junior high areas will have five classrooms, art and music rooms and a computer lab. Phase 1 move-in is slated for December 2011.

Phase 2 begins with demolition of the existing school and construction of the Kindergarten through sixth wing beginning in January 2012 with 18 classrooms, art and music rooms, computer lab and a new library that will be shared with the community.

“We are very excited about the overwhelming vote to build this new facility, which we need for the education and safety of our students,” said Scott Fuhrhop, superintendent of West Washington County Community School District #10.

“We wanted to work with Holland on this project because of the reputation of the company and the integrity of Bruce Holland,” Fuhrhop said. “It has saved time and energy working in partnership with Holland on the construction management of the project. The people are all easy to work with; it’s a real people company and that’s not always easy to find.”
