Holland Construction Completes O'Fallon School District #104 Middle School Ahead of Schedule
O'FALLON, IL - The first middle school for Central School Dist. #104 in O'Fallon, Ill. is now complete and preparing to open for classes in the fall.
Joseph Arthur Middle School on St. Ellen Mine Road was completed under budget and ahead of schedule by Holland Construction Services, Inc. The $6.5 million, 35,888-square-foot structure was designed by Wm. B. Ittner, Inc. of St. Louis to fit current needs by relieving overcrowding using dedicated spaces with a true "middle school" approach.
The new building will accommodate around 200 sixth-, seventh- and eighth- graders, equipped with 11 classrooms, dedicated art room, a science room, a multi-purpose gymnasium, cafeteria, library, computer room and administrative office space. For the first time, district middle schoolers will have their first dedicated music and band room designed specifically for that purpose. The design allows for the school to be easily added onto in several ways, depending on future needs and budget constraints.
"This project went extremely well with Holland Construction - even better than we could have hoped for," said District #104 Superintendent Steve Amizich. "With the school completed so early, we have plenty of time to train new staff, move in furniture and test the systems."
He said the quality of work is top notch and the Holland team was approachable, responsive and very easy to work with.
Amizich said the middle school philosophy provides a qualitative difference for students, incorporating an approachable, core staff dedicated to a specific group of students with a smaller staff-to-student ratio. Sixth-grade student areas will be self-contained.
