Holland Construction Completes Green U.S. Bank Building

EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. – U.S. Bank officials are anticipating a March grand opening at its new bank at 1411 Lewis Road in Edwardsville, submitted for certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), complete with an environmentally-friendly atmosphere, inside and out.

Built on budget and ahead of schedule by Holland Construction Services Inc., the 3,300-square-foot, brick and EIFS building, accented with cast stone and topped with a metal roof, utilized Forest Stewardship Council-certified lumber, guaranteeing that the wood is from a certified well-managed forest. Other steps toward “green” construction include energy efficiency measures and conservation like lighting controls, and heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems to control indoor air quality. Recycled materials were incorporated into the construction and low Volatile Organic Compound paint and carpet were utilized. The bank branch was submitted for LEED certification and will be informed of final designation level in the coming months.

“Holland’s team of knowledgeable, accredited LEED professionals helped us meet the objectives we were working toward for an environmentally ‘green’ building,” said Brent Dudeck, U.S. Bank Edwardsville market president. “Everyone at Holland has been very responsive to any needs and concerns, and they all worked hard to meet deadlines, keeping us informed along the way.”

Staff at the current U.S. Bank facility at 101 North Main Street will relocate to the newly built full-service bank. The new bank will provide customers with the convenience of four teller stations, three drive-thru lanes and a drive-up automated teller and night drop, safe deposit boxes, a sales and service manager, personal bankers and business, wealth management and home mortgage specialists.

As members of the U.S. Green Building Council, Holland Construction provides guidance in LEED certification. The program offers benchmarks for the design, construction and operation of green facilities, awarding a certified, silver, gold or platinum rating through a 69 possible-points system addressing issues like site selection and storm water design; water efficiency; energy and atmosphere concerns; use of reusable materials and resources; and indoor environmental quality factors.

“Holland maintained the project schedule despite some unexpected challenges on site and weather conflicts,” Dudeck said. “Holland is a very capable general contractor.”

Architectural services for the new U.S. Bank were provided by The Lawrence Group of St. Louis.
