Horseshoe Lake Animal Hospital Breaking Ground on New Facility

Building will increase space, improve services

COLLINSVILLE, IL – Holland Construction Services, Inc. will set the first shovels to the ground on the new Horseshoe Lake Animal Hospital at the official groundbreaking ceremony at 9 a.m., Friday, Oct. 9. Located at 5230 Horseshoe Lake Road in Collinsville, the new hospital will increase space and enable veterinarians to diagnose and treat area pets in the best environment possible.

The $1 million project will consist of a new 5,621-square-foot manufactured stone veneer, single-story facility, encompassing seven exam rooms, a large, modern surgery suite, a dental exam room, conference and consultation rooms, separate dog and cat wards for hospitalized pets, a large waiting area and pharmacy.

Kathy Hall, project manager for Horseshoe Lake Animal Hospital, said the current building has worked well for more than 30 years, but the smaller, outdated space had become limiting as the practice continued to grow.

“One major goal is to reduce client wait time,” Hall said. “We will be going from four exam rooms to seven, and when we move into the new building, we will have four full-time veterinarians, decreasing wait time and improving service significantly.”

Hall said as the practice has grown, so too has the need for technicians and support employees.

“We have 27 employees, which will probably increase as well, and we wanted to have the space to accommodate employees and clients in the most efficient way possible,” Hall said.

Other goals for the new hospital include speeding up prescription-filling time and eliminating distractions as clients are being assisted, as well as creating a much brighter, lighter space for employees, clients and pets, with the help of solar tubes installed in the ceiling, letting natural light flood in to the center of the building, Hall said.

Designed by EWR Associates, Inc. of Fairview Heights, the new animal hospital will be built just 30 feet south of the existing building where an old house and barn were formerly located.

The new facility will be used for hospital and veterinarian clinic services, while plans are in the making for the existing location, which will be redesigned to accommodate grooming facilities and upscale boarding with brightly painted walls, piped-in music and video cameras that owners can remotely monitor.
