Holland Construction Services Completes Holy Trinity Church and School

Fairview Heights, IL - Dedicated in December, the new Holy Trinity Church and School are now complete. Completed by Holland Construction Services, Inc. the project is the result of many entities working together with the community to complete the physical merger of the former Our Lady of Assumption and St. Albert the Great Catholic parishes.

Located On Fountains Parkway in Fairview Heights, the school and parish center were completed in time for classes to begin in the fall with about 178 students, representing the consolidation of the former Our Lady of Assumption and St. Albert the Great Catholic schools in Fairview Heights, as well as students from the former St. Stephen School in Caseyville.

HCS began working with Holy Trinity in the early conception stage of the development. The resulting $14 million, 80,000-square-foot project is made up of a 15,240-square-foot church, a 31,756-square-foot school and 38,129 square feet of parish conference room and gymnasium - all under one roof.

"Some of the original reasons we chose Holland were because the company had a reputation for integrity and coming in on budget and on time," said Father Ray Schultz, pastor at Holy Trinity. "But in addition, there was good rapport, which is very important. The people at Holland were very personable and worked well with the church community and everyone involved."

Schultz said he has been involved in construction projects before, but the expertise and professional services provided for this job made it one of the smoothest in his experience.

Stauder Architecture, specialist in religious and institutional architecture, provided architectural services, and prepared a master plan for the 19-acre site to accommodate current needs and long-term growth.

Schultz said ongoing plans include playgrounds and athletic fields.

Exposed wooden beams in the church and vestibule add a unique element, and clerestory windows in the church allow light to flood through the sanctuary. A curved, covered colonnade on the entire front elevation of the church and parish conference area was added to provide shade and shelter, as well as architectural interest. The church seats about 1,200 and features a raised organ platform and an accessible, curved day chapel. Drive-through porte-cocheres are provided for protected drop-off in inclement weather.

The new school will accommodate approximately 280 pre-school through eighth grade students, with future expansion capabilities. Schultz said the parish has been currently growing consistently by four to eight new families per month.

A science room, music room, computer room and library, along with primary classrooms and offices surround a central courtyard. A walkway from the school leads to the gymnasium and parish center. A large lobby, accessed through a large outdoor plaza, serves as a central gathering area for all elements of the Holy Trinity complex. The parish center houses a cafeteria with full kitchen facilities, a large multi-purpose room, meeting rooms, administrative offices and a youth center.
