BELLEVILLE – Holland Construction Services is giving the old Illinois American Water Maintenance Facility on South Illinois Street in Belleville a breath of new life, renovating the structure to house a fourth firehouse for the city, ensuring quicker response time for area residents. In an effort to “recycle” existing structures in Belleville resulting in taxpayer cost savings, the city’s $1.7 million warehouse remodel, will encompass 13,611 square feet for Engine House #4. The facility will provide a fully functioning firehouse with garage space for four firetrucks, a generator system and other equipment, office space, restrooms, a kitchen and lockers within a brick and metal exterior skin. “The job that the Holland Construction team has done is unbelievable,” said Bill Lugge, building maintenance supervisor for the City of Belleville. “I’ve known Bruce Holland for many years, and I had no doubt that the company would do an outstanding job. The firehouse is very impressive. “Holland employs a lot of good people; I’ve never seen a construction project go as smoothly as this one,” Lugge added. In 2005, HCS also completed a new fire station for the Village of Swansea.
