Holland Construction Services Completes Addition to Cancer Treatment Center
SWANSEA – The grand opening of the nearly 10,000-square-foot south wing addition of the Memorial & St. Elizabeth’s Cancer Treatment Center at 4000 Illinois Street in Swansea was held in August, now offering expanded oncology services to area residents.
Built by Holland Construction Services, Inc. the $2 million project includes the extension as well as 5,500 square feet of renovations to the original structure, along with additional parking.
The added space enables the facility to now offer the full range of comprehensive care treatment options at one location, encompassing medical oncology, radiation oncology and a freestanding Positron Emission Tomography - Computed Tomography (PET/CT) scanner for diagnostic imaging. The new extension will house Illinois Oncology, Ltd., a leading provider of medical oncology and hematology services. The Cancer Treatment Center is the only facility accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) to provide radiation therapy in the state of Illinois.
“We couldn’t be happier with the building and with our experience working with Holland,” said Chris Wayne, executive director of Cancer Treatment Center.
“And the Holland team was very sensitive to the fact that we were operational during the construction process,” Wayne said. “They were extremely considerate of patients and staff.”
This represents the ninth St. Elizabeth’s project that Holland has been involved in, and the second with Memorial Hospital.
Hurford Architects of Glen Carbon provided architectural services for the project.
