Holland Construction Services Finishes Work on New Belleville Firehouse #4

BELLEVILLE - The ribbons have been cut and the new Belleville firehouse unveiled after Holland Construction Services completed renovations on the former Illinois American Water Maintenance Facility at 1125 South Illinois Street in Belleville.  Firehouse #4 fulfills city officials’ long time wish, now providing protective services for the southern and eastern portion of the city while manned 24 hours a day.  The $1.88 million warehouse remodel consists of 13,611 square feet housing a fully functioning firehouse with drive-through garage space for fire trucks, a generator system, office space, restrooms, a kitchen, lockers, and sleeping quarters for four – all within a brick and metal exterior skin.

“Holland is very reliable – and stayed on track, on budget and on time,” Fire Chief Scott Lanxon said. “With a remodel, unexpected things can come up, but the Holland team always had a good solution.  “I would recommend Holland to any other city that was considering an endeavor like this,” he added. “I knew the company was reliable and we would get great quality – and we did.”

EWR Architects, Inc. was the architectural firm on the firehouse.  Bright colors were added to the interior, including fire engine red lockers that Lanxon said makes it much more cheerful.

“The firehouse is very impressive. I’ve never seen a construction project go as smoothly as this one,” said Bill Lugge, building maintenance supervisor for the City of Belleville. “The job that the construction team has done is unbelievable.”

Lanxon said recycling an existing building instead of buying land and building from scratch saved the city millions of dollars. “And it worked out perfectly,” Lanxon said. “It’s in a great location.”  The facility will also serve as an emergency operations center, and provides conference rooms and training space for the city.

HCS completed a new fire station for the Village of Swansea in 2005.
