Holland Construction begins money-saving renovations for Anheuser-Busch wholesaler

IMPERIAL, MO. – Holland Construction Services Inc. is set to begin work in August on the expansion and renovation of the H.W. Herrell Distributing Co. warehouse in Imperial, Mo., slated for completion in January.

The $1.8 million design/build project will include the removal and rebuild of approximately 11,000 square feet of the current 55,647-square-foot facility, along with the addition of 3,000 square feet through 3 different phases of work. The new area will provide more draught coolers, warehousing and an office area with restrooms and break room. All will be accomplished while business continues as usual.

As distributors of Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc. products, Mark Herrell, vice president of H.W. Herrell, said the new warehouse renovation and expansion will provide flexibility to accommodate future growth by increasing truck loading capacity and refrigerated storage allowing employees to work more efficiently - and most importantly – safer, through improved traffic flow in the loading locations.

“We chose Holland Construction based on their extensive experience in building high-quality, efficient warehouse facilities,” Herrell said. “Moreover, Holland ’s honesty and integrity throughout the entire bid process assured us that we were getting the best return on our investment.”

Herrell said from day one, the Holland team worked diligently to understand the operational needs and anticipated potential issues that would have resulted in unnecessary expenses and timely construction delays.

“As the conceptual phase progressed we realized that the design of our new facilities not only needed to address immediate needs, but also anticipate future needs as we grow,” Herrell said. “This expansion gives us the flexibility to respond to future growth in the Jefferson County market for years to come.”

Herrell also enlisted the services of Facility Planning, Inc., co-owned by Steve Hunter and Mike Pratt, as an owner’s representative for the project. Pratt highly recommended Holland Construction due primarily to the company’s overall reputation of honesty and integrity.

“We chose Facility Planning because of the owners’ background in warehouse construction management and more importantly to us, their intimate knowledge of the beer business,” Herrell said. “Facility Planning created an optimal design layout that addresses our unique operational needs and, at the same time, integrates best practices from other beer wholesale facilities across the country.”

Pratt worked with Herrell to develop the initial layout, then collaborated with Holland and project architectural firm ACI/Boland, Inc. of St. Louis to develop the final layout and design.

H. W. Herrell Distributing was founded in 1923 as distributors of ice, coal and gravel, as well as non-alcoholic Anheuser-Busch products. After prohibition ended, the company gained exclusive distribution rights to Anheuser-Busch alcohol products, now servicing nearly 300 retail accounts in the Jefferson County area.
