The Humane Society of Missouri has opened the doors to its new Best Buddy Adoption Center and Animal Medical Center of Mid-America, a $16 million facility located at the intersection of Page Avenue and Schuetz Road in Maryland Heights.

“We planned this facility to meet the ever-changing needs of the people and pets who rely on our services,” Kathy Warnick, president of the Humane Society of Missouri, said in a statement.

The Animal Medical Center will offer the latest preventive, diagnostic and surgical treatment, and care for private veterinary clients, according to the Humane Society. The facility has an Integrated Pain Management Center, one of only a few centers of its kind in the United States. It utilizes the most up-to-date equipment and has three surgery suites.

The Animal Medical Center of Mid-America is nationally accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association, according to the Humane Society.

The facility is a two-level, 44,000-square-foot building that has the capacity to house more than 400 animals, an increase from the 200 animals the previous location could house. It comes equipped with several spaces where visitors can interact with adoptable pets.

Kuhlmann Design Group Inc. served as the architect, interior designer and engineer for the project. Randy Burkett Lighting Design was responsible for the facility’s lighting and Dermody & Associates worked on the landscape architecture. Holland Construction Services served as the general contractor.

The project was funded through the Humane Society’s New Horizons capital campaign, which raised individual, foundation and corporate funds for the construction of the facility. The capital campaign was conducted by the Humane Society over the last four years.

The Best Buddy Adoption Center is open seven days a week, while the Animal Medical Center is open Monday through Saturday.
